Wi-LAN Products in 50 Broadband Projects Nationwide
CALGARY, Canada and KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - September 13, 2004 - Wi-LAN Inc. (TSX:WIN), a global provider of broadband wireless communication products and technologies and a charter member of the WiMAX Forum(1), and Aglotel Wireless Solutions Sdn. Bhd. (Aglotel), a Wi-LAN Certified Channel Partner in Malaysia, announced today deployment of Wi-LAN's broadband wireless access products for a number of wireless Internet Service Provider's (ISP's) and enterprise clientele in Malaysia. Among the largest customers is the leading ISP in Malaysia, TM Net Sdn. Bhd.
"Malaysia is known for its government sponsored Multi-media Super Corridor initiatives, and broadband service providers there are experiencing rapid growth," said Kia K. Chong, Regional Director of Asia Pacific Sales, Wi-LAN Inc. "With Wi-LAN's broadband wireless access products available for fast deployment, wireless ISP's, enterprises and government agencies do not have to wait for months to have broadband access or leased circuitry deployed. Wi-LAN's VIP, Ultima3 and Libra products provide customers with quality, reliable broadband access capable of transmitting voice, data and video."
"The Ultima3 system is the most robust broadband wireless system for outdoor Metro Area Networks we have tested," said Joshua Chan, General Manager of Aglotel Wireless Solutions. "It's easy to install, provides our customers with flexibility in the growth of the network and has extended point to multipoint capabilities. So far we have successfully deployed broadband wireless solutions to a number of TM Net's corporate customers including multi-national companies, higher learning institutions and manufacturing firms nationwide."
"TM Net has deployed Wi-LAN's broadband wireless products in several Malaysian states including Selangor, Perak, Penang, Pahang and Johor," said Dato' Baharum Salleh, Chief Executive Officer, TM Net Sdn. Bhd. "With broadband wireless solutions we can now offer a much faster deployment rate to our customers. The high throughput capabilities of Wi-LAN's Ultima3 system have enabled us to provide high quality applications such as video transmission over IP remotely from several different cameras at construction sites. The VIP 110-24 with Wi-LAN's patented VINE technology overcomes difficult, mountainous terrain and non-line of sight in some cases where the customer is located 30 to 40 kilometers from the ISP node."
Wi-LAN's broadband wireless access products are designed to exceed the needs of its customers. Available in license-exempt and licensed frequency bands, they are certified for deployment in most countries worldwide. Wi-LAN products are developed for commercial outdoor broadband wireless networks and are ideal for high-density non-line-of-sight (NLOS) point-to-multipoint configurations, medium-density ad-hoc networks, and long-distance point-to-point backhaul applications.
Wi-LAN provides customers with a smooth upgrade path as new products become available. With WiMAX just around the corner, Wi-LAN has introduced its CONTINUITY PROGRAMTM. The core of the CONTINUITY PROGRAM is Wi-LAN's commitment that any current LIBRA Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) will operate side by side, in the same network, the same cell and even the same sector with future WiMAX Certified CPE's. The CONTINUITY PROGRAM will minimize network and revenue disruption and protect customers' investment in current Libra technology when networks are transitioned to WiMAX compliant equipment. The CONTINUITY PROGRAM offers Wi-LAN customers a solid migration path to Wi-LAN's Wi-MAX Certified systems, which are expected to be available in the first half of 2005.
