Adino Purchases Additional Wi-LAN Products for Gujarat State-Wide Network and Corporate WAN’s in India

CALGARY, Canada and CALCUTTA, India - May 6, 2004 - Wi-LAN Inc. (TSX:WIN), a global provider of broadband wireless communications products and technologies, and Adino Telecom Limited (Adino), India's premier broadband solutions company, today announced an additional $0.3 million of Wi-LAN’s VINE based VIP 110-24 fixed wireless access products and accessories have been ordered for deployment in India. More than half of the order is for further expansion of the Gujarat State Wide Area Network (GSWAN), and the balance is being used primarily for corporate wide area networks (WAN’s). GSWAN’s initial order for Wi- LAN equipment was announced on May 29, 2003, and Wi-LAN shipped $0.2 million of broadband wireless products to GSWAN prior to receipt of this latest order. GSWAN, which has been operational for three years, will continue to be expanded further using the VIP 110-24 broadband wireless products to provide voice, video and data services for many additional offices and departments of the State Government.

"We have been very happy with Wi-LAN’s VIP 110-24 broadband wireless products. These products are easy to install, robust and reliable, and the VINE technology makes the network very scalable," said Mr. R.K. Dave, Engineer-In-Charge of the Project, IT Department, Government of Gujarat. "The VIP 110-24 units have allowed us to provide voice services to many of our offices and departments and avoid leased line costs. In addition, we have been able to provide previously unavailable video and high speed data services."

"We originally won the GSWAN contract through a competitive tender when the Gujarat State Government realized that Wi-LAN’s very reliable, high-performance VIP 110-24 product series would meet their wireless data, voice and video requirements," said Mr. S. Ramchandra of Adino Telecom. "The initial order was used to connect government offices within five kilometers of the State’s district offices. This new order is to continue to establish broadband communications to government offices as well as a hydroelectric project."

Gujarat state is situated on the western shore of India, bounded by the Arabian Sea to the west and southwest and Pakistan to the northwest. It has a population in excess of 50 million and is one of India's wealthiest and most industrialized states. Gujarat has a strong agricultural economy, and other major industries include textiles, petroleum, cement, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers and petrochemicals.

"The GSWAN Project supports government efforts to become more efficient and improve communications through broadband wireless connectivity" said Terry Wason, Regional Sales Manager, India and Southeast Asia, Wi-LAN Inc. "GSWAN provides one example of why fixed wireless access networks are becoming very popular in India, and why Adino has become one of our most successful distributors."

"This contract has given us an opportunity to showcase the capabilities of Wi-LAN products for a major state government in India," said Nico Roelofsen, Vice President, Global Sales, Wi-LAN Inc. "We are very pleased to have Adino as a distributor and value-added reseller of our products, and we look forward to their continued success."

Available in license-exempt and licensed frequency bands, Wi-LAN’s broadband wireless access products are certified for deployment in most countries worldwide. Wi-LAN products are designed for commercial outdoor broadband wireless networks and are ideal for high-density non-line-of-sight (NLOS) point-to-multipoint configurations, medium-density ad-hoc networks, and long-distance point-to-point backhaul applications.

Customers who deploy Wi-LAN’s LIBRA product line are protected by Wi-LAN’s CONTINUITY PROGRAMTM. The core of the CONTINUITY PROGRAM is Wi-LAN’s commitment that any current LIBRA Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) will operate side by side, in the same network, the same cell and even the same sector with future WiMAX Certified(1) CPE’s. The CONTINUITY PROGRAM will minimize network and revenue disruption and protect customers’ investment in current technology when networks are transitioned to WiMAX Certified equipment. The CONTINUITY PROGRAM offers Wi-LAN customers a solid migration path to Wi-LAN’s Wi- MAX Certified systems, which are expected to be available in the first half of 2005.
