Wi-LAN Ranked Fourth Across Canada In Fastest-Growing Company Competition

Calgary, Canada
May 24, 2001

Wi-LAN Inc. (TSE: WIN), an innovator of high-speed wireless data/Internet communications, today announced that it has been recognized by Profit 100 Magazine's PROFIT 100 - Canada's Fastest Growing Companies competition. Wi-LAN was recognized as the fourth fastest-growing company in Canada, and first in the Prairie region.

"We are honoured to be named the fourth fastest-growing company in Canada," said Dr. Hatim Zaghloul, Wi-LAN Chairman and CEO. "Wi-LAN is experiencing steady growth, and the products and technology that we have developed are putting our company at the forefront of the wireless age worldwide."

In the past year Wi-LAN has professionalized its management team and acquired several companies to jump-start its customer base and technological expertise. Wi-LAN sales have jumped to $63 million - up 14,030 percent over five years. Despite the challenging market over the last several months, Wi-LAN has been moving forward with a combination of several major deals and international approval of its technology, including:

- Industry Canada, FCC and ETSI approval on its AWE products;

- FCC interim approval, allowing to sell products in 2.4 GHz band;

- The signing of a supply agreement with Solectron, the world's leading provider of electronics manufacturing and supply-chain management services; and

- The signing of an original equipment manufacturing agreement (OEM) with Symbol Technologies, the leader in wireless and mobile data transactions and systems.

"The PROFIT 100 is an exciting measure of how entrepreneurs are helping to build the Canadian economy," said Rick Spence, publisher and editor of PROFIT. "This year we are seeing more technology companies, more exporters and more companies from outside Ontario on this list -- all good signs of how Canadians are adapting to shifting global forces and new business trends."

"While this award recognizes the growth of our company and the accomplishments of our management team, it is a tribute to everyone at Wi-LAN," said Dr. Hatim Zaghloul. "What makes this award so significant is that our hard work and expansion is being acknowledged."
