Company Receives Top Rankings in Multiple Categories.

Wi-LAN Inc. (TSE: WIN), an innovator of high-speed wireless data/Internet communications, is pleased to announce today that it has been recognized as one of the country's best-performing publicly traded high-technology companies for 2001 according to Canadian Business Magazine's annual Tech 100 listing. Wi-LAN received top rankings in numerous categories, leading to an overall ranking as fifth across Canada.

"We are pleased to once again be ranked in the top echelon of technology companies across the country," said Dr. Hatim Zaghloul, Wi-LAN's Chairman and CEO. "Added to our recent top ranking by Profit 100, this ranking recognizes the efforts and achievements of Wi-LAN and its employees."

Based on data compiled by Andersen of Toronto, Canadian Business Magazine rated companies on revenue, revenue growth rate, profitability growth, productivity, market capitalization, employee growth rate, and R&D growth rate for the 1999 to 2000 fiscal period.

"This year's listing proves that good companies are built to thrive - and not just survive - in any market condition," Joe Chidley, editor of Canadian Business magazine said in a release distributed May 28th. "Although many technology companies have been hit during the current market downturn, those with sound business plans and strong executive leadership continue to post outstanding numbers."

Wi-LAN increased its revenue by 970 percent over the one-year period, based primarily on acquisitions and broadband wireless access sales, which brought the company into sixth place for revenue growth. The company ranked seventh in terms of R&D expenditure growth, after increasing R&D spending by 252 percent to complete development and begin shipping its AWE 120-24 advanced wireless Ethernet bridge. R&D expenditure growth was also stimulated by the development of Wi-LAN's broadband wireless access systems and its first Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) chip. Wi-LAN was ranked first in the one-year employee growth category, growing its staff primarily through acquisitions of companies with complementary technology such as TIL-TEK Antennas Inc.
