Wi-LAN Announces Executive and Board Changes


Steve Bellamy of UC Wireless Assumes Role of CFO With the Departure of Peter Kinash; Michel Fattouche steps down from Wi-LAN’s Board of Directors

(Calgary, Alberta - August 31, 2001) - Wi-LAN Inc. (TSE:WIN), an innovator of high-speed wireless data/Internet communications, today announced that Mr. Steve Bellamy has been appointed to the role of Chief Financial Officer, effective September 1, 2001. Mr. Bellamy has been with UC Wireless since 1998 and is the current Chief Financial Officer for this Wi-LAN subsidiary in Santa Barbara, California. Mr. Bellamy replaces Mr. Peter Kinash, Wi-LAN's Chief Financial Officer, who will be leaving the company August 31, 2001 to pursue other interests. In an unrelated development, Dr. Michel Fattouche has stepped down from Wi-LAN’s board of directors.

Mr. Bellamy has 20 years of experience in financial operations across Europe and the United States, with strength in mergers and acquisitions, fund raising and cash management. Mr. Bellamy held many senior positions with many reputable firms including: M&A Partnership, arranging mergers and acquisitions specifically for the telecommunications industry in Los Angeles and San Jose; Dilmun Investment Advisors, the UK subsidiary of Bahrain International Bank, a specialist investment bank; and Charterhouse Development Capital, a leader in the European venture capital and leveraged buy-out market. Mr. Bellamy will be working between both the Calgary and Santa Barbara offices. Dr. Zaghloul will be managing all outside brokerage and investor relationships.

Dr. Michel Fattouche has stepped down from his position on Wi-LAN's Board of Directors in order to focus more on his other responsibilities.
