New Director Adds Additional Broadband Wireless Bench-Strength

Wi-LAN Inc. (TSE:WIN), a leading innovator in the field of wireless data/Internet communications, today announced the appointment of Henry Burkhalter, a leader in the wireless industry, to Wi-LAN’s Board of Directors. Most recently, in his position as COO, Mr. Burkhalter was responsible for the deployment of licensed wireless spectrum for broadband access services throughout the United States for WorldCom Wireless Solutions.

Mr. Burkhalter has served in several positions with the Wireless Communications Association International (WCA) including Chairman of the Executive Committee and Chairman of the Government Relations Committee, where he testified on behalf of the wireless industry before the U.S. Congress and the FCC.

Mr. Burkhalter has an impressive background within the wireless industry. Before joining WorldCom Wireless Solutions, Mr. Burkhalter was President, CEO, and Vice Chairman of Wireless One, Inc., a company that sold wireless data and video services throughout the United States. Previously, he acted as Chairman, CEO and President of TruVision Communications, selling wireless video services in the Southeast United States, which he founded in 1993. In addition, Mr. Burkhalter has served on numerous professional and not-for-profit boards including AICPA, Mississippi Blood Services, the United Way and the YMCA.
