Wi-LAN Inc. (TSE:WIN), an innovator of high-speed wireless data/Internet communications, today announced the company has hired wireless veteran Adrian Wheeler, as Director, European Sales, to head its new European office, located in Reading, a high-tech business community west of London.

Mr. Wheeler will be responsible for building a local European team to support and grow Wi-LAN's existing implementations of its Hopper Plus(tm) and I.WiLL(tm) product lines in wireless networks and to develop new business opportunities for Wi-LAN's products to service providers and operators.

"We have seeded the demand for broadband wireless access, and as a result, Wi-LAN's European sales have doubled," said Bill Hews, Wi-LAN president and COO. "We are excited to have Adrian on the ground in Europe for this key role."

Recently, Wi-LAN and Tele2 UK signed a multi-year preferred supplier agreement in which Wi-LAN's I.WiLL products, based on their patented W-OFDM technology, will be used to expand Tele2's wireless network. Wi-LAN units will expand Tele2's commercial operations and provide high-speed wireless Internet access in the United Kingdom.

"Europe is one of the hottest communications markets and Wi-LAN is solidifying its presence," said Mr. Wheeler. "I'm thrilled to help Wi-LAN build on its wireless local loop successes in the U.K. and Sweden by expanding the company's operations throughout Europe."

Mr. Wheeler has 17 years telecommunications experience, including positions at: Marconi Defence, as a design engineer in the microwave antenna and microelectronics groups; British

Aerospace as an engineer producing RF and microwave based systems; and Grundig Microwave Technology as business development manager responsible for generating new business around the world for the company's RF, microwave and satellite based systems and products.

Most recently, Mr. Wheeler was at NetCom Consultants, a privately owned, specialist telecommunications consultancy. Founded in 1993, its staff undertakes assignments in competitive and deregulated marketplaces for some of the world's leading telecommunications companies and has worked in a range of closed and newly liberalized wireless and fixed line markets. As a senior manager at Netcom, Mr. Wheeler managed the design and implementation of broadband wireless access IP infrastructure for a UK wireless Internet Service Provider that established one of the world's first public wireless IP networks. He was also responsible for all UK business and engineering development.
