Wi-LAN First Half Revenues Exceed 1999 Year End Revenues

Wi-LAN Confirms Sales Growth Momentum at Mid-point in the Year

Calgary, Alberta
May 30, 2000

Wi-LAN Inc. (TSE:WIN), a leading innovator in wireless data/Internet communications, today announced company unaudited revenue for six months ended April 30, 2000 of $6.2 million, without revenue from acquisitions, has exceeded 1999 total year revenues of $5.8 million.

"This revenue milestone is an indication that our plan to grow revenue is solidly on track," said Bill Hews, Wi-LAN president and chief operating officer. "We expect the rate of revenue growth will continue to increase significantly as we close additional business. In addition to contracts already announced, we currently have a full pipeline of opportunities and MOUs with several companies and are working toward finalizing contracts."

Revenue growth to date includes product sales from contracts such as the previously announced preferred supplier agreements with two European broadband wireless access service providers, Tele2 (UK), and Sweden's Telia GlobalCast Internetworking AB and key distributor, Wireless Matrix AB, also of Sweden.

Last week, Tele2 (UK) signed a preferred supplier agreement in which Wi-LAN's I.WiLL products, based on its patented Wide-band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (W-OFDM) technology, will be used to expand Tele2's wireless network. Under terms of the agreement, Wi-LAN will supply Tele2 (UK) with equipment through to December 2001 with a forecasted value in excess of $6 million. This new contract reflects growth in Tele2's network and is consistent with their plan to cover approximately 60% of the UK population by 2003.

Earlier this year, Wi-LAN signed a 2-year, supply agreement with Telia, which is forecasted to purchase U.S. $16 Million of Wi-LAN wireless product. Following closely, Wi-LAN signed a one-year distribution agreement with Wireless Matrix, agreeing to purchase a minimum of US $12 million worth of Wi-LAN product in 2000, having already signed its first agreement for US $6 million.

Revenue for the six months ended April 30, 2000 also includes revenue from licensing the company's patented Wideband Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing technology, initial sales of the I.WiLL(tm) Access Point in Canada and Europe and sales of Wi-LAN's other products in Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia Pacific, South America and Africa.

Revenue for the six months ended April 30, 2000 excludes revenue from acquisitions of telecommunication equipment suppliers Digital Transmission Systems and Telcor, which were completed earlier this year.

Wi-LAN expects to release consolidated results for the six months ended April 30, 2000 in mid-June.
