New 32 Mbps System for Service Provider Mass Market Rollout in MMDS (U.S.), MCS (Canada) and WLL34 (Europe and International) Licensed Frequency Bands and UNII Unlicensed Bands

Atlanta, Georgia
June 6, 2000

Wi-LAN Inc. (TSE:WIN), an innovator of high-speed wireless data/Internet communications today at SUPERCOMM 2000 announced a new wireless product built with Wi-LAN's patented Wideband Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (W-OFDM) technology for service providers needing to deploy cost-effective broadband wireless access networks.

Priced below U.S. $500 and capable of data rates of 32 megabits per second (Mbps), the new products will be remote units designed to work with a complementary point of presence (POP) base station. Wi-LAN will offer both products as part of the company's I.WiLL(tm) family of broadband wireless access solutions. The products are ideal for service providers looking to deploy a base-station-to-remote network architecture in the MMDS, MCS and WLL34 frequency bands.

Within the year, Wi-LAN will unveil several new wireless networking products built with its patented W-OFDM technology for service providers holding licenses for all frequencies as they become available.

Starting in the fourth quarter of 2000, Wi-LAN will rollout 32-Mbps, W-OFDM-technology products for the MCS and 3.6 GHz frequency bands followed shortly by products for the MMDS and 3.4 GHz frequency bands. This year, Wi-LAN will demonstrate wireless data rates of 40 Mbps and 90 Mbps for rollout in products in 2001. In 2001, the company will demonstrate 155 Mbps capability.

On the Multi-code Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum technology front, Wi-LAN will be launching a 12-Mbps point-to-multipoint Hopper Plus(tm) product in July 2000. The Hopper Plus offers unprecedented networking speed and efficiencies. It is the foundation for network of Telia GlobalCast and Wireless Matrix in Northern Europe and Tele2(UK) in the United Kingdom.

The W-OFDM Advantage:
W-OFDM is a variation of OFDM that further improves its characteristics and enables low cost broadband applications. The signal reception is corrected for distortions, allowing greater transmission speeds, and processes the signal to maximize the range. W-OFDM allows lower-power, multipoint radio frequency (RF) networks to be implemented, minimized interference with adjacent networks.

W-OFDM is the most spectrally efficient technology known today. Its spectral characteristics enable a high bits per second per Hz as well as tighter packing of channels. These two features increase the overall bandwidth efficiency. Less disruption of adjacent users and insensitivity to external noise means that high-speed multipoint data networks can be simply and rapidly deployed. Once installed, these systems are tolerant to changes in the RF environment, limiting maintenance requirements, and the systems can be easily expanded to meet the user's changing needs.

Wi-LAN at SUPERCOMM 2000:
Product demonstrations are available at Wi-LAN's SUPERCOMM 2000 booth (#6967), located in the heart of the "Wireless and Satellite Technology Zone".

Wi-LAN will hold a press conference June 7, 9 a.m. (EDT) in room #308E, Georgia World Congress Center. Interested parties can take in the proceedings: through teleconference by calling 1-888-422-7101 (toll-free within North America) or (608) 250-9281 (international) and entering conference code #333941; or through audio web cast by visiting the company's web site (www.wi-lan.com).

Starting June 7, the company's web site (www.wi-lan.com) will include footage of product demonstrations, presentations and other Wi-LAN exhibition booth activities at SUPERCOMM 2000, the world's largest annual communications technology exhibition and conference, in Atlanta, Georgia.
