Wi-LAN Adds Vice President Finance to Management Team


Nairn Nerland Brings 16 Years Finance and Business Experience to Wi-LAN

Wi-LAN Inc., a leading innovator of wireless data/Internet communications, today announced the company appointed Nairn Nerland to the role of Vice President Finance, August 14. Mr. Nerland brings to Wi-LAN 16 years of extensive finance and business experience in mergers and acquisitions, as well as international publicly traded companies in both Canada and the United States. Mr. Nerland has held CFO positions at three successful technology companies in Calgary, and was President and COO of an international software company.

As CFO of three high-tech companies; Harbor Systems Management Ltd., EyeWire Inc., and Zi Corporation, Mr. Nerland was in charge of financial planning, public reporting, tax planning, financing, and assisting the CEO's in strategic direction.
From 1997 to 1998, Mr. Nerland also held the position of President and COO of Zi Corporation, an international, public software company for the Chinese language. In this role, he oversaw worldwide software development operations, sales and marketing, and finance and administrative functions. 

Prior to his technology related experience, Mr. Nerland also held the position of Corporate Controller and Assistant Secretary for the international public well services company Nowsco Well Services Ltd. He was in charge of worldwide financial reporting and management control systems from 1993 to 1995.

In his role of VP of Finance, Mr. Nerland oversees Wi-LAN's internal finances; he is responsible for Wi-LAN's budget, and provides the top level management team with timely and quality financial information to help strategically position the company to reach it's financial goals and overall business objectives.
