OFDM Forum Second Meeting Slated for July in Calgary

Calgary, Alberta
June 26, 2000

The OFDM Forum, a voluntary association of hardware manufacturers, software firms and other users of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technology in wireless applications, will hold it's second meeting to address issues such as interoperability between market segments, harmonized standards and spectrum allocations in mid-July.

Scheduled for Calgary, Alberta, Canada from July 13 - 15, 2000, the OFDM Forum meeting will include leaders in the wireless industry from around the world - organizations spearheading the development and implementation of wireless technologies and products that promise to revolutionize communication as we know it.

The OFDM Forum meeting will combine plenary seminars and working group sessions designed to provide delegates the opportunity to share developments in OFDM technology and products. Forum working groups (Fixed Wireless Access Group, Wireless LAN Group and Wireless Road Access Group) will also share progress reports with the Forum-at-large. To date, 75 people are registered for the July meeting, representing 46 companies from around the world.

"The OFDM Forum is all about the sharing of knowledge," said Dr. Hatim Zaghloul, Chair of the OFDM Forum and chairman and CEO of Wi-LAN Inc. "By working together to create a single worldwide standard for OFDM, we can anticipate future applications and help create a single standard to allow for seamless communications around the world."

Founded in December 1999, the OFDM Forum was established to develop a single, compatible global standard for cost-effective, high-speed wireless networks on a variety of devices. Founding companies are as follows: Ericsson, Nokia, Philips Semiconductors, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Sony, Wi-LAN and the Testbed Center for Interoperability at the University of California At Santa Barbara (a division of CalTrans).
