Paul McCarten , , , Chairman of the Board

Paul McCarten has more than 30 years of legal and management experience. Most recently, he was a partner in the business law group of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, a leading national Canadian law firm. He currently serves as National Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada and has previously served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Diabetes Association. Paul is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the former Chair of the Ontario Bar Association real estate section.

Robert Bramson , , , Chairman of the Compensation Committee

Robert (Bob) Bramson is a leading licensing executive and a highly respected patent attorney. Since 1995, Bob has practiced with Bramson & Pressman of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, a law firm that supports its clients by assessing and realizing the value of patents and technologies by sale or licensing. The firm specializes in the computer hardware and software, Internet, electronics and telecommunications industries.

From 1995 to 2004, Bob was President of VAI Patent Management Corporation. He also held positions as Chief Executive Officer of InterDigital Patents Corporation, Vice President and General Patent and Technology Counsel of Unisys Corporation, Head of the Computer and Technology Law Group of Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis LLP and Licensing Counsel for Abbott Laboratories.

For 25 years, Bob was an Adjunct Professor, teaching courses in patent law, computer law and licensing law at Temple Law School, Rutgers Law School and Villanova Law School. During his career, Bob has also served as a patent examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Dr. Michel Fattouche , ,

Dr. Michel Fattouche co-founded WiLAN with Dr. Hatim Zaghloul in 1992. Michel also co-founded Cell-Loc, a company focused on licensing and selling wireless location technology and services. An industry authority in digital wireless communication technology, Michel is a tenured professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Calgary where he has taught and conducted research since 1986. He also holds multiple patents in the U.S. and Canada.

Michel has spoken at several industry events and is a member of Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta. In 2002. he was named Ernst & Young’s Prairie Entrepreneur of the Year in the communications and technology category. He is also on the Board of Directors of PsiNaptic. Michel holds an MSc and PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Toronto.

John Gillberry , ,

A successful entrepreneur, John Gillberry was the founder and President of Bayfield Capital Group, a corporate finance advisory firm. It provides expertise in areas of mergers, acquisitions, asset-based lending solutions, capital acquisition and other growth strategies that may take advantage of non-traditional or equity financing. John is currently Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of QHR Technologies Inc. Previously, John was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at COREWORX. He has held senior positions at a number of other companies, including Radiant Energy Corporation where he was Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer of Software Innovation and President and CEO; Skulogix Canada where he was Chief Financial Officer; and BTE Technologies where he was President.

John sits on the boards of several public and private corporations, and is active in local non-profit organizations. He holds an MBA from the Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario.

Bill Jenkins , , , Chairman of the Governance and Nominating Committee

Bill Jenkins is a partner with the law firm of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP (FMC). As such he has advised corporations, investment dealers and banks on public securities offerings, equity and debt financings, mergers and acquisitions as well as other corporate finance transactions. Currently national co-chairman of FMC's M&A group, Bill also serves on its National Partnership Board. He is a past chairman of the securities law section of the Canadian Bar Association in southern Alberta. Bill is a frequent contributor to seminars on corporate finance. He holds a BA in economics and an LLB from the University of Western Ontario.

Jim Roche , ,

Jim Roche is President and CEO of Stratford Managers, a company he founded in 2006. Stratford helps businesses, including high-technology and manufacturing companies, increase shareholder value. Before starting Stratford, Jim was President and CEO of Tundra Semiconductor Corporation, a company he co-founded in 1995. Under his leadership, Tundra grew 25% per year on average and delivered profits after tax of more than 10% of revenues. Through organic growth and strategic acquisitions, the company grew to more than 300 employees with operations around the world and annual revenues of over $80 million. Jim was also a founding member in 1986 of Newbridge Networks Corporation, a manufacturer of data and voice communications products. Jim has served on numerous public, private and non-profit boards including Tundra, Fidus Systems Inc., CANARIE Inc., and the Canadian Microelectronics Corporation.

Rick Shorkey , , , Chairman of the Audit Committee

Rick Shorkey is a chartered accountant with more than 30 years of industry experience in senior financial and general management roles. He has provided part-time and interim CFO services to several technology companies since September 2002. Prior to this he was CFO of ATMOS Corporation, which specializes in semiconductor embedded memory IP.

Rick’s experience also includes time as Chief Financial Officer of Bytec-Comterm Inc., a manufacturer of IBM-compatible computer products; and President of Solartronics Ltd., one of the top 10 manufacturers of solar equipment in Canada. He has also held senior financial positions with Bowmar Canada Ltd. and Leigh Instruments Ltd. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Jim Skippen , , , President and CEO

Jim Skippen is President and Chief Executive Officer of WiLAN. He is responsible for all operations, including the development and implementation of the company’s strategic and operating plans. Since assuming this position in June 2006, Jim has assembled a world-class technology licensing team and strengthened WiLAN’s balance sheet from less than one million dollars in cash on hand to approximately $190 million. Since he joined WiLAN, its market capitalization has increased from $25 million to more than $700 million, placing it among the top 10% of the fastest growing companies in North America. In addition, he has led WiLAN’s licensing efforts, which have generated record revenues and patent licensing agreements with more than 250 companies, including agreements with technology leaders Broadcom, Fujitsu, Intel, LG, Motorola Mobility, Nokia, Panasonic, RIM and Samsung. In December 2011, Jim was named Canadian Tech Stock Executive of the Year in the second annual Cantech Letter Awards.

A seasoned licensing executive and lawyer, Jim has managed several large and complex patent licensing negotiations and litigations. Before joining WiLAN, he worked for two of Canada’s largest law firms and held a number of senior management positions, including Senior VP Patent Licensing and General Counsel at MOSAID Technologies. While leading the patent licensing program at MOSAID, he closed deals worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Jim is on the boards of the Ottawa Art Gallery and Elmwood School, and is a member of the Governing Council of the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance. He is a former Vice-Chairman and board member of the Canadian Diabetes Association. He is a frequent speaker at conferences and has delivered numerous papers and articles on topics such as management of intellectual property, patent licensing and technology law. Jim is also a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
